Race Against Time Challenges Endurance of More Than 2000 Participants

Canon Photo Marathon Malaysia 2009 brings out the best in local photographers

KUALA LUMPUR, 10th October 2009 – Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a global leader in photographic and digital imaging solutions, completed its third Photo Marathon by unearthing more fresh talents in the Malaysian photography scene. The outdoor adventure was a test of endurance for over 2000 participants who relentlessly photographed 3 themes, Splash!, Red and Shooting in Progress throughout the day at Sunway Lagoon.

The outdoor event challenges the skills of photography enthusiasts in 6 Asian countries. Attracting more than 6000 people in the region with the highest number of participation in Malaysia. The race confined in Sunway Lagoon kicked off with a short briefing of rules and roadmaps, reached its height with the sight of participants uploading their best shots amidst a lot of excitement. The marathon was held for participants under two categories, DSLR & Compact Camera.

The overall Photo Marathon 2009 Grand Prize winner for the Compact category won a trip for a Photo Clinic in Japan for one accompanied with a Canon PowerShot SX120 IS worth RM 1,049.00.

As for the DSLR category, the winner will be heading for a trip to Japan for one as well as Canon’s EOS 500D Kit (w/ EFS 18-55mm IS) worth RM 3,663.00. Second prize winners for both the Compact and DSLR category won a Canon PowerShot SX120 IS worth RM 1,049.00 and a Canon Powershot SX20 IS worth RM 1,699.00 respectively.

Third Prize winners from the Compact and DSLR category will receive Canon’s PowerShot A2100 IS worth RM 849.00 and Canon’s EFS 55-250mm IS lens worth RM 1,000.00 respectively.

“This annual photo marathon has created history each year as not only has it managed to gather photo enthusiasts around the country in one venue but it also helps in creating a binding tie among photography lovers through a competitive experience regardless of race and culture,” said Mr. Simon Wong, Assistant Director of Canon Marketing (Malaysia).

Renowned names from the photography industry were there to judge the hundred of participation and find the shining stars. The panel of judges included (Mr Sean Soh of Sean Studio, En Zainal Abd. Halim of Reuters Malaysia, Mr Joe Chan of Pro Kit, Mr Ng Kok Leong of The Star, Mr Peter Tan of Peter Tan Photography & Mr Zung of The Photoz). Judging was based on creativity in theme interpretation, use of colors, light / shadows, composition of photograph, and relevance to the theme given in the marathon.

Mr. Simon Wong, Assistant Director of Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd summarized the marathon as a platform to nurture the love for photography and creativity especially on the young generation. “The flair of creativeness in the photography captured by the participants is beyond our expectation. The marathon becomes a milestone each year for the Malaysian photography scene and we hope the creativity expressed here will continue in many other forms,”
