  Is your ink / toner cartridge a genuine Canon product?  
 
Counterfeiting is rapidly expanding and it has become common to see counterfeit copier toners, fax toner cartridges, printer ink cartridges in the market. Product packaging can be remarkably similar, making it hard to distinguish the difference between counterfeit products and genuine products.

Counterfeit ink cartridges may cause problems such as ink leaks, blocked print heads, and erratic printer performance, and may be a poor fit with the printer. In the worst case, the printer may be seriously damaged.

Counterfeit toners and toner cartridges may cause problem such as toner transfer to other stacked pages or to your fingers when you hold the printout, appearance of lines on the printout pages due to bad drum cleaning, spillage when the toner does not work well with the toner-cleaning unit, blurry details and grey background from insufficient charging of toner

Canon products feature security sticker that use the latest technologies to distinguish genuine Canon products from counterfeits. This security sticker incorporates a holographic images in a polymer layer with special optical properties that makes it harder to counterfeit than conventional holograms, allowing easy, reliable identification of genuine Canon products.
 
             
  The Security Film  
The security sticker used on genuine Canon products changes its design depending on the viewing angle. Additionally, the color changes to a bright, iridescent green when tipped to a horizontal position. With counterfeit products, neither the design or color will shift when viewed at different angles.
 
  The Handy Viewer  

When viewed using the Handy Viewer provided at retail stores, the security sticker on genuine Canon products is visible through the "The Handy Viewer" window, but appears black through the "The Handy Viewer" window. Security sticker on counterfeit products will be visible when viewed through either the "The Handy Viewer" or "The Handy Viewer" windows.

 

 
   
     
  Using counterfeit products can cause problems like the following...  
     
 
Canon receives numerous reports about problems resulting from the use of counterfeit products. Counterfeit products not only prevent you from attaining the full performance of your printer, copier and fax machine, but can also lead to serious problems that require repairs. Always use genuine Canon products.
 
             
  Case 1: Ink leaks  
     
      Ink leaks can block print heads making it impossible to print correctly and causing excessive ink consumption.  
             
  Case 2: Poor fit with printer  
     
      Counterfeit products are made to inexact tolerances that in some cases may prevent printing entirely by preventing proper installation into the ink head or preventing ink supply even if the ink tank can be installed.  
             
 
Canon often receives reports of other problems as well, such as color aberrations and color streaking. In many instances, counterfeit products result in head blockage or other problems that require repairs at a Canon service center.
 
     
Case 3: Bad Drum Cleaning problem for Toner Cartridge
 
    As heat and pressure are applied to fix the toner on the paper, the counterfeit toner could not be fully melted and cleaned by the blade causing appearance of lines on the printout pages due to the residual toner.

  Canon's policy for eliminating counterfeit products  
     
  To eliminate counterfeit products and the problems they may cause when in use, Canon identifies manufacturers and retailers of counterfeit products based on information obtained from its own investigations and information provided by users.  
     
 
Counterfeits infringe Canon's valuable intellectual properties, among others, trademark rights for "Canon": Canon brand. These infringements constitute criminal offenses, and offenders can be subject to imprisonment and/or payment of fines. Offenders are also subject to payment for damages in civil proceeding.

Canon is fighting against counterfeiters to protect its intellectual properties, as well as to keep its customers out from inconveniences or even dangers of counterfeits: Canon asks polices, customs and any relevant other authorities all over the world to raid counterfeiters and seize counterfeit products. Hundreds of raids are being carried out per year.

Counterfeits are illegal and just bad to you; it is Canon's commitment to make its every effort to get rid of counterfeits out of your sight.
